In the Studio with Baby Isla

As a mummy of 3 babies, the youngest having just turned 2, my days of having regular newborn snuggles have passed. So when Isla came for her very first photo shoot and loved nothing more than being held it was lovely. Though, regardless of how many newborns I photograph, they always seem tiny after me carrying and changing my toddler every day!

Isla was such a little star at her session. It took a little while for her to settle into sleep but once she was wrapped she quickly drifted off into the land of nod (that what my Mum used to say to me) It often takes a while upon arrival for babies to settle down. After all, they are brought into new surroundings, with new sights and smells, and stripped down to their nappy! I always encourage parents to try to time a feed for when they arrive at the studio, or at least to not feed right before leaving home. Babies settle much better just after having gotten a full tummy so if we can achieve this when we are ready to start the session it really does help.

Little Isla had so much hair! So instead of covering it all up with bonnets we just placed some little delicate headbands on to show off her locks in all their glory.

The studio was kept lovely and warm to help baby stay super settled when undressed. The last thing we want is for her to get too chilly (I recommend mum and dad dress in thin layers as it does feel warm at times. I do keep an eye that it doesn't get to hot for baby, though you may be more comfortable in a t-shirt rather than a sweatshirt)

Toward the end of the session I got mummy and daddy involved, first with some simple baby in hands poses, and then with some beautiful parent poses. Mum was apprehensive at first but as I always say, let me get the shot. If you don't like it you don't have to buy it... and they selected it at their viewing appointment.

And I just love this photo of Isla and Daddy looking like they are blowing kisses to one another.

Mum and Dad both loved their resulting photographs, and took away digital images and a beautiful set of boxed photographs, all individually mounted.
